We don’t believe downstreaming ends at green beans. For us, it means roasting where coffee is grown, building brands locally, and sharing finished products with the world. Our role is to turn that vision into reality, end to end.

We imagine a coffee trade where Indonesian roasters stand as exporters in their own right—not hidden behind subcontracting roles. Where specialty coffee is appreciated for its craft, its provenance, and its freshness. And where customers around the world can reach exceptional Indonesian coffee without layers of unnecessary intermediaries.
We envision a global market where origin countries participate fully—not just at the beginning of the value chain, but at its most rewarding end.
Why Max Havelaar?
The name Max Havelaar comes from a novel that exposed how coffee from the Dutch East Indies once fueled wealth elsewhere, while value was stripped from its origin.
Centuries later, Indonesian coffee is celebrated around the world—but many of the same patterns still linger. Value is often taken at the source, while brands, margins, and ownership are built far from where the coffee is grown. Origins remain suppliers, rarely decision-makers.
We don’t claim to have solved this. But we take the critique seriously.
Carrying this name is a reminder that coffee trade is never neutral—and that if Indonesian coffee is to truly move forward, fairer systems must be designed with intention, not inherited by default.
